A consortium including the university and some colleges has proposed a large housing development on land they own north of Barton Road. Development on this Green Belt site was rejected by the Labour city council when it recently drew up the current Local Plan, the document which lays down where new building can and cannot take place. The council favours providing new housing well outside the city in satellite towns like Camborne, rather than encroaching on the Green Belt and Labour will oppose these proposals.
