Mike Davey has been selected as the Labour Candidate for Newnham in May’s city council elections. Married with three children (and a dog and a cat), Mike has lived and worked in Cambridge for nearly 20 years.

Formerly a senior public servant, Mike left the county council four years ago, having worked primarily in Children’s and Community Services. Part of this time was spent as Chief Executive of a company employing over 300 people to deliver services to young people.

Since leaving the council, Mike has been active within communities across the city. He is Chair of Governors at a local school, Chair of Centre 33, a young people’s charity, and is involved in several other local groups.

He first joined the Labour Party 40 years ago.

Mike says, “It is an honour to be selected as the Labour candidate for Newnham. People from this community have their voices heard around the world. They need a positive voice advocating for them at the city council. It is over ten years since Newnham last had a Labour councillor. I think it’s time for a change. I know how to get things done in the public sector and I want to use those skills for the benefit of people in Newnham.”
