Cambridge’s Labour MP, Daniel Zeichner, knows Niamh well and is strongly supporting her campaign to represent Newnham on the City Council. Daniel says,
“Local Newnham resident and teacher Niamh Sweeney is just the kind of person this community deserves as a local councillor. I’ve known Niamh for a very long time. She’s knowledgeable, principled and will get things done.
“The government cuts are harming our community. In the last four years, Newnham Croft has seen a £119 per pupil loss. As a former President of Europe’s largest education union, Niamh has campaigned at the very highest level for change.
“She’s also helped me fight against the closure of the City Centre’s Post Office after the coalition government privatised Royal Mail, to save the magistrates court, and to keep a police station in our city.
“Newnham needs an enthusiastic campaigning local councillor and Niamh is the woman for the job.”
