The city council elections on 5 May resulted in an increase in Labour’s already healthy majority on the city council and dramatic increases in the majorities with which sitting Labour councillors were re-elected. This is a resounding endorsement of the way in which Labour has been running the city council since it won overall control from the Liberal Democrats in 2014.

Last year, Labour’s overall majority was six. It is now ten and the make up of the current city council is:

Labour 26

Liberal Democrat 13

Green 1

Independent 2

Conservative 0
