Newnham Labour has announced a strong team of candidates for the local elections on 6 May.

For the City Council, we have a fantastic line-up of local teacher and education campaigner Niamh Sweeney, Cameron Holloway, a recent graduate from Robinson College, now working in prison education, and final year Christ’s College student Hollie Wright.

For the County, we are very lucky to have experienced local charity worker, former leader of the Labour Group on the County Council and former Parliamentary candidate for South Cambridgeshire Tariq Sadiq.

We will publish fuller details of the experience and policies of each candidate in future posts.

Newnham residents will also be able to vote for Police and Crime Commissioner and Mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Labour’s PCC candidate is Nicky Massey. Nicky is Executive Councillor for Transport and Community Safety on Cambridge City Council, and sits on Cambridgeshire’s Police and Crime Panel. She hosts an annual domestic violence conference in Cambridge, is campaigning to stop street harassment, and was part of the team that designed Operation Carmel, a project tackling County Lines drug dealing.

For the Mayoral election, we have Dr Nik Johnson, a children’s doctor at his local NHS hospital, Hinchingbrooke, and a district councillor for St Neots East. At the core of Nik’s campaign are ‘The three Cs’ of  Compassion, Co-operation and Community.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to register to vote by 19 April. We are also encouraging residents to register for a postal vote, to make sure you’ll be able to vote safely.
