There will be a by-election in Newnham on Thursday 8 August triggered by the resignation of Lib Dem councillor Lucy Nethsingha. We are fortunate that Newnham resident Niamh Sweeney will be fighting the election for Labour. Niamh is a teacher at Long Road Sixth Form College with over twenty years experience in probation, education and youth services. She has a strong record of service to her community and, until last year, she was National President of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers. Now that she has relinquished that responsibility, she has the time, energy and enthusiasm to be a very effective city councillor for Newnham.
